Switching to Strava

Hey all! Hope you’re all having a safe and happy 2021. I definitely cooled off on the running over the winter, but am ramping back up and looking forward to the 2021 running season.

With that, I’ve decided to switch to Strava for collecting & posting mileage (etc) for the group. While a Marine-focused custom mileage tracker was fun to build out for the 2020 Solo Run challenge, I don’t see being able to maintain it for the long term (and.. Strava exists, so why re-invent the wheel?). 😅

Plus (once signed up), Strava should give us a lot of added benefits, in terms of automated tracking and publishing (via smartwatch/phone tracking apps), and possibly future expansion to other sports/activities.

So, if you already have Strava, head over to the Strava Group I created and join us: https://www.strava.com/clubs/883479

And if you don’t have Strava yet (and would like to track miles with our group), go get a Strava account, download/connect the app on your device(s), and start posting to the group!

Thanks all!
Bjorn

Group Runs?

Let’s plan some group runs for the fall!

I’m thinking there’ll be a group run one morning and one on another evening (depending on our availability). We’ll maintain social distancing, and break into pace groups depending on who shows up. We can adjust into the fall if need be.

Use the comments section on the form for further details/questions. And Look for the results in the FB group, or in the next newsletter!

2020 Solo Effort

With the lack of traditional group runs and competitions, runners & walkers are challenged to log miles in a virtual competition we’re calling the 2020 SOLO EFFORT!

How does this work?

  • Sign up & log your miles.
  • Post your fastest times to a leaderboard.
  • See how fast and how far other Mariners are going.
  • Maybe we’ll do some sort of “Awards” if this really takes off. (Who in town really walks the most? And who can clock the fastest mile?)
  • How many miles can we log all together this summer? (1000? More?)
  • And *eventually* we’ll do some in-person/group activities! 😅

Let’s help keep each other motivated & healthy this summer!
